Creating Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Spaces For Kids
This digital workshop offers best practices for creating an environment for children and teens to learn yoga that is inclusive, supportive, and student-centered.
While kids with trauma symptoms sometimes have behavioral issues that can be an obstacle to learning yoga, trauma-sensitive classroom management can create a compassionate classroom culture that honors the diverse emotional, physical, and social needs of these children, rather than forcing them to show up in a prescribed way.
When kids feel safe, seen, heard and free to choose what participation looks like for themselves, we have created a yoga space where all our students can feel whole and thrive.
This 3.5 hour workshop will include:
- Understand the neurobiology of stress and trauma and what's happening with our kids
- Broaden your definition of "classroom management" to support the reality of the social and emotional needs of each student we teach
- Re-define your role as teacher, clarify the sources of your power in a classroom setting, and wield it compassionately
- Explore routines and rituals that empower kids to stay engaged and learn
- Co-generate classroom agreements that allow kids to show up as their most authentic selves
- Establish loving, trusting relationships in the classroom
- Create a safe container for learning, while fostering states of wonder, fun, and freedom
